Elena Gianini Belotti
Elena Gianini Belotti was born in Rome in 1929. She worked for a long time in the field of education. Her first book, Dalla parte delle bambine, was an essay on the influence of social conditioning since infancy in shaping women’s roles. She went on to publish a number of essays, novels and collection of stories, winning the Premio Grinzane Cavour for Prima della quiete.

2008 – Cortocircuito – This is a collection of stories on the theme of immigration. One of the stories from this collection, “The Seagull”, translated by Anne Milano Appel, was published in the Connecticut Review, vol. XXXI, no. 2, Fall 2009, pp.59-75. Another story, "Suspicions", also translated by Anne Milano Appel, was published in Methamorphoses (Smith College), in the special issue on the theme "Other Italies, Italy's Others" in December 2006. pp.223-227.
