Mariapia Veladiano was born in Vicenza in 1960. Graduated in Phylosophy and Theology, she taught Italian literature and history for more than 20 years and is now a head of her school. Whe writes for the daily Repubblica and the periodical Il Regno. La vita accanto, her first novel, was published in 2010. It won the Calvino Prize and was runner up in the Strega Prize in 2011.
